What did I expect was going to happen?

That's right, Flamboyance can have consequences. I'm as guilty as the next person, I play extravagant shots and then wonder why this happens to my bat. I could try to blame a "bat breaker ball", or say it wasn't knocked in properly, or say the guy who made it (me) didn't do a good job, but I know it was my fault.

There's nothing to repair. The crack is confined to the face and I couldn't glue it even if I tried. The only solution is to take a mallet to it and flatten out the damage.

Morale of the story: Wrap your bats in cotton wool and never use them...

or accept that if you play stupid shots and try to smash every ball, this kind of thing happens.

There's nothing wrong with the bat, just the idiot holding onto it.

  1. Arrrgh! I did something very similar 2 weeks ago in the nets, the crack I've made runs vertically but is in the inside corner for a RHB....tape and glue and just hope it doesn't spread.

  2. Hi Peter,

Most of the time that's all you can do with any crack or damage, hope for the best. It's a piece of wood at the end of the day and things like this can happen if the bat's 1 day or 1 year old. Sadly I've only got myself to blame for this one though.

    Kind Regards

  3. Hi David

I only have myself to blame as well, I went for a wild slog at a full delivery. As you say it is a piece of wood, on the plus side if it breaks properly I've got an excuse for buying another part made and shaping a replacement!

Love the blog by the way, keep up the good work.

    Kind regards

    Peter.
